Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox 2: the match of the Betas in France

If the Microsoft web browser possesses a considerable lead over Firefox, taking all versions into consideration, their Beta versions are, however, neck and neck.
Perimeter:
  • Study carried out from 07/24/06 to 09/24/06

Web visits in France use Internet Explorer 7 more than Firefox 2 in absolute terms…

Made available on-line earlier, IE7 has a considerable head start in terms of the web visits generated. During the week of 18 to 24 September 2006, 1% of visits in France were made using the beta version of the Internet Explorer 7 browser, compared with just over 0.7% using the beta version of Firefox.

The beta versions of both browsers have advanced over the last 9 weeks:
  • IE7's share has doubled,
  • while the share of Firefox 2 has been multiplied by 2.5.

The proportion of visits made in France using beta versions of Firefox 2 has grown rapidly. Only available since July 2006, the Firefox 2 betas seem to have gained more ground proportionally than the Internet Explorer 7 betas (available a year earlier) in France.
but the combat between the betas is closer than that between the overall Internet Explorer and Firefox families

During the week of 18 to 24 September 2006, over 80% of web visits using Internet Explorer or Firefox can be attributed to the market leader. On the other hand, looking only at visits using beta versions, only 58.4% come from Internet Explorer: over 40% of "beta visits" involve Firefox.

In terms of evolution, French visits using a beta version of the Firefox 2 browser have multiplied by 3.5 in 9 weeks, against less than 2.5 for visits using IE7 beta:

Will Firefox 2 continue in the same vein?
Will IE7 manage to take over thanks to the automatic update feature planned by Microsoft in Windows XP in the 4th quarter 2006? Keep an eye on XiTi Monitor in the coming months…
